The Value of Lining Drapes

Drapery lining serves many purposes, both aesthetic and practical.  Aesthetically, lining gives body and weight to a drapery panel, adding fullness to the folds and allowing it to hang with more substance.  Lining completes a drape with a polished and custom finish.

Practically, lining protects the face fabric from UV rays, extending the life of your custom drapes. It also helps protect the contents of the room from sun damage, including flooring, rugs, furniture and artwork.

With our Design Tool, you can quickly and easily customize drapes, choosing from  a number of lining options. Regal Drapes lining options provide varying levels of light blocking depending upon your needs.  Premium privacy lining, included with all of our custom drapes, is 100% cotton and will block about 30% of the light.  Premium privacy lining gives you all of the benefits of a lined drape, but still lets soft light filter into the space.

Thermal dim out lining will block more light, up to 70%, while still creating a beautiful drape.  This lining option will also reveal only vague shadows when looking in from the outside.  As the name suggests, thermal lining will provide insulation from external heat and cold, helping with drafty windows or strong, extended sun exposure.

For rooms that need total light blocking such as bedrooms and media rooms, Regal Drapes offers black out lining.  This lining will block virtually all of the light, it provides complete privacy and maximum UV protection as well as maximum insulation against heat and cold.  Black out lining also helps absorb sound and can be an excellent way to reduce ambient noise.  Most fabrics in the The Regal Drapes collection can be paired with any of our lining options.

Regal Drapes also offers Premium Privacy and Blackout lining options that are inherently fire resistant and that meet NFPA 701 fire code. These lings can be paired with any of our fire resistant fabrics.  For commercial spaces or for added peace of mind at home, either one is a must.

Finally, to enhance the beauty of fabrics that are naturally finer, such as dupioni silk, or to add another layer of insulation, flannel interlining can be used between a face fabric and the lining of your choice.

With so many options, a RegalDrapes Design Consultant can help you customize the perfect solution to any of your drapery needs, or you can get started designing your own custom style with our Design Tool.
